What does gynecology deal with?
Gynecology is a branch of medicine that deals with the study of the female reproductive system. Modern gynecology is closely related to obstetrics, as it studies and monitors changes in the female body related to pregnancy and childbirth, from conception to the end of the postpartum period.
What is the specialty of a gynecologist?

What is the cost of pregnancy management at the Belgrade Polyclinic?
The cost of pregnancy management depends on the complexity of the pregnancy, the number and types of examinations, as well as various tests that may or may not be necessary.
Pregnancy management. Your period is late, you feel nauseous, frequently vomit, your breasts are sore and swollen, and you are constantly running to the bathroom. You go to the pharmacy to buy a pregnancy test. Are you pregnant?
Diagnosis of pregnancy
The only reliable “diagnosis” of a normal pregnancy is made through an ultrasound examination supported by laboratory tests, which answers the following questions:
-
Are you pregnant?
-
Is the embryo in the uterus?
-
Is there a heartbeat of the fetus? (if fetal heartbeat is not heard at the first examination, the exam must be repeated until the heartbeat is heard)
-
How old is the pregnancy, i.e. what is the gestational week (GW)?
-
When is the due date?
What will you find out at the first gynecological examination?
After taking your medical history (family and personal illnesses – including drug allergies, previous infectious diseases, diabetes, thyroid issues, blood pressure, body weight, previous pregnancies and miscarriages…), the doctor will assess whether your pregnancy is normal (physiological) or high-risk, requiring closer monitoring. The doctor will provide advice on how to alleviate common pregnancy discomforts: nausea and vomiting, heartburn, hemorrhoids and constipation, varicose veins. You will also receive recommendations on what your diet, physical activity, sexual behavior, medication use, and travel plans should be. The doctor will also assess your work ability.
What can be seen during an ultrasound examination?
An ultrasound examination assesses the age and vitality of the pregnancy, observes the baby's appearance and how it is progressing. Thanks to ultrasound, it is also possible to see the baby's movements. The fetal heart beats exceptionally fast – about 160-170 beats per minute.
